2AM On Read

[Verse 1]

Highlighter stains on the page

Half-cold cup on the desk

Gone gray

Textbook open like it cares

But my mind slipped out of there

Screens glow blue on my face

Tiny clock stuck in this late

Page ten reads just like page three

Every line turns into you and me

[Chorus]

It’s 2AM and my phone lights up your name

I let it ring

Let it fade

Let it ache

Read it once

Read it twice

Then let it bleed away

Leave you on read

But you’re still in my veins

It’s 2AM and my phone lights up your name

I underline you in the margins anyway

[Verse 2]

Loose sweatshirt

Socks on the floor

Playlist humming from before

When your laugh lived in this room

Now it’s just the fan and the fading moon

You say “you up?” like it’s small

Like it didn’t break us at all

I draft “I miss you” then erase

Watch the bubbles never take shape

[Chorus]

It’s 2AM and my phone lights up your name

I let it ring

Let it fade

Let it ache

Read it once

Read it twice

Then let it bleed away

Leave you on read

But you’re still in my veins

It’s 2AM and my phone lights up your name

I underline you in the margins anyway

[Bridge]

Maybe I’ll answer in another life (oh)

Where exams are easy and we got it right

But here in this quiet

With the screen gone dim

I only let your shadow back in

[Chorus]

It’s 2AM and my phone lights up your name

I let it ring

Let it fade

Let it ache

Read it once

Read it twice

Then let it bleed away

Leave you on read

But you’re still in my veins

It’s 2AM and my phone lights up your name

I underline you in the margins anyway
