Back Road To The Kitchen Light

[Verse 1]

Coffee in a chipped red cup

Cornfield leaning on the rusted truck

You said

"We’re fine

We’re only stuck"

But your eyes kept tracing power lines

[Chorus]

I keep driving this back road to the kitchen light

Same screen door slam

Same small-town sky

Every mile I swear I’ll say goodbye

But I turn

I turn

Back road to the kitchen light

Pay stubs stacked beside a county fair

We dance in the hum of the fridge and the air

Like kids still waiting on a ride

[Chorus]

I keep driving this back road to the kitchen light

Same screen door slam

Same small-town sky

Every mile I swear I’ll say goodbye

But I turn

I turn

Back road to the kitchen light

[Bridge]

Maybe loving you is learning how to stay

When every billboard points the other way

I trace your name in the flour on the counter

Watch it fade

Then write it one more time

[Chorus]

I keep driving this back road to the kitchen light

Same screen door slam

Same hopeful sky

Every mile I swear I’ll say goodbye

But I turn

I turn

Back road to the kitchen light (oh-oh)

Yeah I turn

I turn

Back road to the kitchen light
