Back When We Were Brave

[Verse 1]

You were painting on the floor

Old sweatshirt

August storm

Said

"I don't know what I'm doing"

But your eyes were so sure

There was coffee going cold

Cheap wine on the stove

We were rich in every moment

Dead broke and full of hope

[Chorus]

Back when we were brave

Sleeping on a mattress on the ground

Laughing at the rain

Saying

"It'll work out somehow"

We didn't need a map

We just wrote our plans on napkins

Threw them away

God

I'd give it all to go back

Back when we were brave

[Verse 2]

You were crying on the train

Job fell through

Missed your plane

I said

"Maybe that's the sign

That we're meant to stay the same"

Dinner out on credit cards

Shared one plate

Counted stars

Every "no" we ever swallowed

Turned to music in the dark

[Chorus]

Back when we were brave

Sleeping on a mattress on the ground

Laughing at the rain

Saying

"It'll work out somehow"

We didn't need a map

We just wrote our plans on napkins

Threw them away

God

I'd give it all to go back

Back when we were brave

[Bridge]

Now the house is twice as big

But the nights feel kind of small

We got everything we wanted

Did we lose what meant it all?

If you're wondering like I am

Can we still be those two kids?

Take my hand

Let's burn the script

Start again

Like we once did

[Chorus]

Back when we were brave

Let's throw the cushions on the ground

Open every shade

Let the thunder shake this house

We don't need a map

We can write our plans on napkins

Lose them in the rain

Baby

Standing here beside you

We can still be brave

[Outro]

Yeah

Standing here beside you

We can still be brave
