Backroad Harmonies

I grew up where the dirt roads bend

Past the mill and the river end

Momma sang low while the supper burned

Daddy taught me the things I learned

Oh, there's something in a country song

That keeps a weary heart holding on

With back out harmonies risin' high

Like porch light blowin' in a Georgia sky

Now the town has changed, but I'm still here

With the same old hopes and the same old fears

I hear those voices in the evening air

Like a promise saying somebody cares

Oh, there's something in a country song

That keeps a weary heart holding on

With background harmonies rising high

Like porch light glow in a Georgia sky

When the day runs out and the night rolls in

Find my way back home again

To the place where love and memory meet

In every step and every beat

Oh, there's something in a country song

That keeps a way-heart holding on

With background harmonies rising high

Like porch light glow in a Georgia sky

Yeah, those background harmonies

Carry me through

Straight back to the life I knew
