Backroad Heartbeat

[Chorus]

You’re my backroad heartbeat

Thump-thump in a two-lane night

Little wild

Little off-beat

But damn

You feel so right

Got your bare feet on my dash

Laughin’ while we’re runnin’ from the past

You’re my backroad heartbeat

Prayin’ this road never runs out of blacktop fast

[Verse 1]

You slid in

Seat still warm from the sun

Your hair in my face

Cherry on your tongue

Radio low

But we sang anyway

You said

“Boy

Don’t you dare hit home”

Like trouble in a ball cap

Talkin’ slow

Every mile put a crack in my guard

Till your hand found mine

And rewrote my scars

[Chorus]

You’re my backroad heartbeat

Thump-thump in a two-lane night

Little wild

Little off-beat

But damn

You feel so right

Got your bare feet on my dash

Laughin’ while we’re runnin’ from the past

You’re my backroad heartbeat

Prayin’ this road never runs out of blacktop fast

Turn that gravel into our own runway

Kickin’ up ghosts in the brakelights

You talk big dreams

Small-town blues

I’m takin’ mental pictures of you

If this is wrong

Then I’ll stay lost

I’d trade my plans for this dirt and exhaust

[Bridge]

If the morning ever finds us

Pullin’ into some dead-end sign

I’ll still chase that rush

That hush

When you lean in close and steal my mind

If the world keeps spinnin’ past us

Let it spin

Let it spin too fast

Long as I got your laugh in my cab

Little wild

Little off-beat

But damn

You feel so right

Got your bare feet on my dash

Laughin’ while we’re runnin’ from the past

With your bare feet on my dash

Laughin’ like we’ll never hit the gas

You’re my backroad heartbeat

I don’t ever wanna

Ever wanna lose that backroad beat (hey!)

Drummin’ through this rusted frame

If love’s just one long backseat song

Baby

Keep on sayin’ my name

With your bare feet on my dash

Laughin’ like we’ll never hit the gas

You’re my backroad heartbeat

I don’t ever wanna

Ever wanna lose that backroad beat (hey!)
