Backroads Turn to Gold

[Intro]

Wind on that two-lane

Dust on my old Ford

Sun sinking slow red

Like it’s been here before

[Verse 1]

You got your boots on my dashboard

Laughing with your hair all wild

Singing every wrong word

Like you were still a child

We got a gas tank heading toward empty

But tonight we’re ridin’ rich

Every mile that we steal

Baby

Feels like we’re getting our wish

[Chorus]

Backroads turn to gold

Every time you’re holding my hand

Little town

Big world

Right here where your bare feet stand

We don’t need a map when your blue eyes glow

Every small-town story feels like a show

Take this gravel

Make it paved in my soul

When I’m with you

Backroads turn to gold (oh yeah)

[Verse 2]

Neon on the feed store window

Closed sign hangin’ half-tight

That old dog on the courthouse corner

Still barking at the night

We got a cheap wine chillin’ in a cooler

Two lawn chairs in the bed

And every star that we claim

Darlin’

Crowns the life we’ve led

[Chorus]

Backroads turn to gold

Every time you’re holding my hand

Little town

Big world

Right here where your bare feet stand

We don’t need a map when your blue eyes glow

Every small-town story feels like a show

Take this gravel

Make it paved in my soul

When I’m with you

Backroads turn to gold

[Bridge]

One day we might chase some bigger sky

City signs and hotel lights

But if all we ever have is this Friday night

Turn that key and I’m alright (yeah, I’m alright)

[Chorus]

Backroads turn to gold

Every time you’re holding my hand

Little town

Big world

Right here where your bare feet stand

We don’t need a map when your blue eyes glow

Every small-town story feels like a show

Take this gravel

Make it paved in my soul

When I’m with you

Backroads turn to gold

[Outro]

Wind on that two-lane

Dust on my old Ford

You leaning into me

Laughing

And backroads turn to gold
