Backseat County Fair

[Intro]

[whistled motif

Simple

Circular]

[Chorus]

We were young at the backseat county fair

Feet on the dash

Smoke in the summer air

Every small town song sounded like a dare

I keep driving

But my mind stays there

[Verse 1]

Rust-red truck and a busted radio

Name carved deep in the pinewood at the show

You laughed hard

Said

"promise you won't go"

Funny how we all left anyway

[Chorus]

We were young at the backseat county fair

Feet on the dash

Smoke in the summer air

Every small town song sounded like a dare

I keep driving

But my mind stays there

[Verse 2]

Last I heard

You were living by the coast

I stay here

Haunt the graveyard of the ghost

Of the kid I was

Maybe I did leave

But I never got far (oh no)

'Cause the road keeps looping

Right back to your car

To that midnight mirror

Where you drew a heart

And I drove right through it

In the dark

[Chorus]

We were young at the backseat county fair

Feet on the dash

Smoke in the summer air

Every small town song sounded like a dare

I keep driving

But my mind stays there
