Backseat to the Sunrise

[Verse 1]

You left your boots by the front door

Mud still red from that old dirt road

Coffee gone cold in your chipped blue cup

Note on the table just said "I gotta go"

[Chorus]

Now I’m giving my heart

A backseat to the sunrise

Let the sky burn out

Every color of your name

I was holding on tight

Till I ran out of my lies

So I’m driving this hurt

Past the line of our state

Giving my heart

A backseat to the sunrise

Till the dark in me fades

[Verse 2]

Radio stuck on the station you loved

Static and stories about better days

I pass that church with the leaning cross

Whisper your name

But it don’t sound the same (oh no)

[Chorus]

Now I’m giving my heart

A backseat to the sunrise

Let the sky burn out

Every color of your name

I was holding on tight

Till I ran out of my lies

So I’m driving this hurt

Past the line of our state

Giving my heart

A backseat to the sunrise

Till the dark in me fades

[Bridge]

Maybe I’ll find you

In some small-town bar

Maybe I’ll thank you

For breaking my heart

‘Cause it taught me to leave

When the leaving is hard

Taught me to love

From a brand-new start (yeah)

[Chorus]

Now I’m giving my heart

A backseat to the sunrise

Let the sky burn out

Every color of your name

I was holding on tight

Till I ran out of my lies

So I’m driving this hurt

Past the line of our state

Giving my heart

A backseat to the sunrise

Till the dark in me fades

Giving my heart

A backseat to the sunrise

Watch the night slip away
