Backseat to the Weekend

[Verse 1]

You pull up in that thrift-store jacket

Same old car

New bad habits

Socks don’t match

But the vibe does

Kinda

Singing to a song from last December

[Pre-Chorus]

You say

“Let’s get lost for the weekend”

Eyes on mine and the clock starts freaking

Laughing while we outrun closing time

Who needs perfect when you feel this right?

[Chorus]

I’ll take the backseat to the weekend (weekend)

Let you drive me off the deep end (deep end)

Little bit wrong but it feels so right

Spinning like the room in your parents’ house tonight

I’ll take the backseat to the weekend (weekend)

Heart on airplane mode

We pretend

Nothing really matters but your hand in mine

Backseat to the weekend

Hit rewind (oh yeah)

[Verse 2]

Lip gloss stain on your old band t-shirt

We trade jokes till my sides kinda hurt

Phone on red

But your face still glowing

First sip hits and the truth starts showing

Hit rewind (hey!)

[Bridge]

Say you’ll stay till Monday morning

We can fake it through the yawning

If this is all we ever get

I’m still calling it the best

One more time
