Behind the Beat

Code open, no warning

I slide in slow

City lights blur

While the late night speakers glow

Warm rose in the snow

Got the room on low

I keep my words half spoken

Let the soft truth show

Deep round base

Steady pulse under my chest

I′m not chasing the pace

I'm just writing the rest

Every line hangs loose

With the weight of my breath

Sandy on the edge

When I let the cadence stretch

A stake behind the beat

Where the quiet feels right

Soft knocking in the dark

And I lean to the night

No cry, no flash

Just a pulse in the light

Mellow in my chest, I keep it simple in life

Mellow guitar licks grift like I have from in between

Find a warmth on the corner, soft crackle in between

I move through the doubt with a gone low-key scheme

I hurry when I talk, heavy thoughts got a sheen

I don't waste my voice, let the groove carry weight

Have sun on the edges, never forcing the shape

The room starts gliding when the drums hit late

And I breathe in the space that the silence creates

I stay behind the beat

Where the quiet feels right

Soft knocking in the dark

And I lean through the night

No crowd, no flash

Just a pulse and a light

Bellowed in my chest, I keep it simple in life
