Drop That Old Blues Down

[Intro]

Stage lights breathing

Crowd dust rising

You feel that shake

In your shoes

In your chest

One note hanging

Like a held-back storm

Then the band steps forward

And the floor goes warm

[Verse 1]

Been hauling these hurt songs

Up and down state lines

Same torn suitcase

Same cheap motel signs

But tonight I taste fire

On my tired tongue

All those heartbreak stories

’Bout to get sung (oh yeah)

[Chorus]

Drop that old blues down

Let it hit the ground

Let it shake your bones

’Til the pain comes out

Raise that worn-out heart

Let the hurt get loud

Drop that old blues down

Hear the whole crowd shout

[Verse 2]

You got debts

You got doubts

You got nights you don’t name

You been laughing in daylight

But the dark knows your shame

So we pour it in the speakers

Till the fear unhooks

Let the truth ride rough

In the cracks of the hooks (hey!)

[Chorus]

Drop that old blues down

Let it hit the ground

Let it shake your bones

’Til the pain comes out

Raise that worn-out heart

Let the hurt get loud

Drop that old blues down

Hear the whole crowd shout

[Bridge]

Hands up high

For the tears you hid

For the love you lost

For the kid you were

The kid you still is

Sing it raw

Sing it proud

Right now

If you ever felt small

You’re the giant now (woah)

[Chorus]

Drop that old blues down

Let it hit the ground

Let it shake your bones

’Til the pain comes out

Raise that worn-out heart

Let the hurt get loud

Drop that old blues down

Hear the whole crowd shout

[Outro]

One last chord

Let it hang

Let it glow

We dropped that old blues down

Now we walk out whole
