Feathers in My Scales

I wake up on the rock in the golden sun

Little green skin, tail on the run

But there’s a secret that I can’t hide

Every time the wind blows, I want to fly

Dreaming of the clouds all day

Stretching out my tiny claws

Is it too wild if I say

I want to break the laws?

‘Cause I’m a little lizard, but I feel like a bird

Oh I sing on the fence, though it sounds absurd

Balancing on branches, I reach for the sky

Maybe I got scales, but I’m learning how to fly

The other lizards laugh and slip away

They say, "Stay on the ground, don’t go astray"

But every cricket’s song sparks my soul

Who says little lizards can't dream whole?

Whistling to the sunrise bright

Trying out my melody

Every heartbeat feels so light

Wings are hiding inside of me
