Highway Maps and Polaroids

[Verse 1]

Cracked screen

Loaded playlist

Backseat full of half-zipped bags

Coffee stains on old blue denim

Laughing as the motel fades

You draw mountains on the window

Say

“Pick a road

We’ll see what’s there”

Cheap maps

Wind-tangled hair

Everything we own in the air

[Chorus]

We’ve got highway maps and Polaroids

Names of towns we can’t pronounce

Singing loud

Chasing the noise

Till the small doubts all drown out

If this is wrong

Then let it be

Just your hand right next to me

Rolling past the painted signs

Leaving all the clocks behind

[Verse 2]

Missed exits

Inside jokes

Postcards we forget to send

Sunburn

Soda

Inside smoke

From stories we invent

You tap rhythm on the dashboard

Promise we’ll remember this

Every wrong turn

Every rest stop

Every almost-broken kiss

[Chorus]

We’ve got highway maps and Polaroids

Names of towns we can’t pronounce

Singing loud

Chasing the noise

Till the small doubts all drown out

If this is wrong

Then let it be

Just your hand right next to me

Rolling past the painted signs

Leaving all the clocks behind

[Bridge]

What if we never go back? (hey!)

What if this road is home?

If all we are is what we pack

Let’s leave the past alone

[Chorus]

We’ve got highway maps and Polaroids

Dusty shoes and open skies

Singing loud

Chasing the noise

Till the quiet in us dies

If this is wrong

Then let it be

Just your hand right next to me

Rolling past the painted signs

Writing our own exit lines
