Late Checkout Heart

[Verse 1]

You talk to the plants on your windowsill

Name every one like a friend

Coffee goes cold while your stories spill

You laugh and forget where they end

There’s paint on your wrists from the night before

Old records stacked on the floor

You say

"I'm a mess"

I say

"That's what I came here for"

[Chorus]

You make the morning feel like a secret

Like the world overslept

But we beat it

Curtains half-open

Sky barely starts

Late checkout heart

Late checkout heart

You turn the minutes into a Sunday

Even on a rush hour Monday

Time moves slow wherever you are

Late checkout heart

Late checkout heart

[Verse 2]

You read all the signs on the subway walls

Underline favorite lines

You keep every ticket and keycard and call

Tucked in a shoebox of times

You’re late to the train

But you save my seat

Saying you hate to compete

With clocks and alarms

So you race to be last on the street

[Chorus]

You make the evening feel like a secret

Like the clouds had a plan

But we freed it

Streetlights can wait while we park the car

Late checkout heart

Late checkout heart

You turn a short walk into a story

Rain on your hair

You don’t say you’re sorry

Time slips away wherever you are

Late checkout heart

Late checkout heart

[Bridge]

What if the days all start running again?

What if the lists all get long?

Promise me this when the deadlines descend

You’ll still hum the wrong words to the song (oh oh)

We’ll miss our stop

Circle the block

Let all the plans fall apart

If there’s a line

We’ll stand at the back

Guarding that late checkout heart

[Chorus]

You make forever feel like a secret

Like a room that we found

And we keep it

Suitcase half-zipped

But we never depart

Late checkout heart

Late checkout heart

You turn the last call into a sunrise

Laugh till the tears sit warm in your eyes

Time gives in wherever you are

Late checkout heart

Late checkout heart

[Outro]

You say

"I’m a mess"

I say

"That’s my favorite part"

Leave the door open

For your late checkout heart
