Long Way to the Store

[Intro]

[Soft picked guitar

Distant porch ambience]

Sun just slid

Over rusted mailboxes

Screen door creaks

Like it’s singing back at me

[Verse 1]

Keys in a jar

On the old blue counter

List in my hand

But my head’s somewhere else

You’re in my shirt

From that late September

Coffee on your lip

Laughing to yourself

[Chorus]

It’s a long way to the store

‘Cause I keep turning back to your front door (hey!)

Got two miles left

But my heart’s on the floor

Buying bread

Thinking ‘bout you more and more

Every aisle

Every sign

Every squeaky cart wheel

Says I’m yours

Yeah

It’s a long way

Long way

Long way to the store

[Verse 2]

Pass old Joe’s

With the crooked arrow

Gas price board

Spelling out my fate

You in my phone

As a one-word wonder

Blinking on the dash

Saying “don’t be late”

[Chorus]

It’s a long way to the store

‘Cause I keep turning back to your front door (oh-oh)

Got two miles left

But my heart’s on the floor

Buying bread

Thinking ‘bout you more and more

Every aisle

Every sign

Every squeaky cart wheel

Says I’m yours

Yeah

It’s a long way

Long way

Long way to the store

[Bridge]

Maybe love’s just

Running small-town errands

Big old feelings

In a beat-up car (yeah)

I don’t need much

Just your tired sweatshirt

And a kiss

In the driveway dark

[Chorus]

It’s a long way to the store

‘Cause I keep turning back to your front door (hey!)

Got two miles left

But my heart’s on the floor

Buying bread

Thinking ‘bout you more and more

Every aisle

Every sign

Every squeaky cart wheel

Says I’m yours

Yeah

It’s a long way

Long way

Long way to the store

[Outro]

[Band drops

Handclaps and stomp]

Long way

Long way

Long way to the store (hey!)

Long way

Long way

Just to love you more
