Marigold Lanterns Under the Moon

I set marigold lanterns

By the old framed photograph

Dusty moon on the windowsill

The kettle starts to laugh

Anxiety like embers

In the pocket of my coat

Tonight the quiet has a heartbeat

And it finds the words I wrote

I light the path with petals

Where the willow shadows lean

Pour a little honey

Into all the in-between

If the door remembers footsteps

Let them wander back inside

Let the house become a harbor

Let the weary rest tonight

Come home through the candlelight

Come warm your hands with mine

For one sacred night

The walls will hum, the stars will give us time

Buried gold lanterns glowing

Where the old regret and fate

We remember love thy name again

And nothing here is lost or strayed

Your laugh is in the teacups

Your grace in every chair

A soft one, edges of the room

Still know you were once there

So I leave a little space

Between the silence and the rain

A place where your familiar kindness

Can return to me again

Come home through the candlelight

Come warm your hands with mine

For one sacred night

The walls will hum, the stars will give us time

Marigold lanterns glowing

Where the old regrets can fade

We remember love by name again

And nothing here is lost or strayed

And as morning takes the lanterns

I can't untake their flame

Love becomes a tender echo

That still answers when I name
