Midnight Honey

[Verse 1]

Late night

My tongue is heavy

From all these sweet half-spoken things

You lean back

That loose white sweater

Sleeve falling off your shoulder seam

You laugh

And it cuts right through me

Like incense curling in the dark

Your thumb draws circles on my wrist

Slow halos on a speeding heart

[Chorus]

You taste like midnight honey

Bittersweet

Slow on my lips

Every drop keeps running

Down between my fingertips

If this is gonna burn me

Baby

Let it burn me slow

You taste like midnight honey

And I can't let go

[Verse 2]

Record spin

That soft old static

Your head finds home against my chest

Your questions come in quiet fragments

“Do you ever think we’re more than this?”

You trace your name on my reflection

In that blacked-out TV glass

We say “it’s nothing

Just for tonight”

But we both know we’re lying

Past

[Chorus]

You taste like midnight honey

Bittersweet

Slow on my lips

Every drop keeps running

Down between my fingertips

If this is gonna burn me

Baby

Let it burn me slow

You taste like midnight honey

And I can't let go

[Bridge]

We’re tangled in a maybe

(oh, tangled up)

Too deep to call it fun

I tell myself I’ll leave

Then

You kiss me like the sun

Dripping through the curtains

Soft gold on your skin

I swear this is the last time

Then I fall again (again, again)

[Chorus]

You taste like midnight honey

Bittersweet

Slow on my lips

Every drop keeps running

Down between my fingertips

If this is gonna burn me

Baby

Let it burn me slow

You taste like midnight honey

And I can't let go
