Midnight Lanterns on the Piano

I wander slow through the moonlit square

Lanterns flicker like a prayer in the air

The old stone houses hold their breath

And every shadow remembers death

A whisper drifts from the sleeping lane

Calling my name through the glass and rain

I feel the night pull soft and near

Like something lost is still right here

In the moonlit town where the lanterns glow

I walk with the ghosts I used to know

Tender as smoke

They follow me down

Through the velvet heart

Of the moonlit town

Window shimmer

With a pale gold light

Empty cafes in the hush of night

A child's laugh slips through the trees

Then fades away on the autumn breeze

I hold my coat against the cold

As memories rise like stories told

And every step on the cobblestone

Sounds like a soul I once called home

In the moonlit town

Where the lanterns glow

I walk with the ghosts I used to know

Tender as smoke

They follow me down

Through the velvet heart of the moonlit town

If I turn around, will you still be there?

A pale reflection in the midnight air

I don't fear the past, I fear the hush

Of loving what time has turned to dust

In the moonlit town where the lanterns glow

I walk with the ghosts I used to know

And though they fade as the night winds sound

Daily through light in the moonlit town
