Midnight Velvet: Lost in the Smoky Groove

[Verse 1]

Lipstick on my tumbler

Ice half-melted

Like my pride

You lean in just a little

Say

"You good?" and I still lie

That crook in your half-smile

Cuts cleaner than the drink

Your hand plays with your collar

Mine trembles on the sink

[Chorus]

Closed at the bar

But we still open wounds

Two hearts off-key

In this tipsy

Midnight room

Every word is almost

Every touch

Almost too far

We ain't going home together

But we ain't going home

(we just stay)

Closed at the bar

[Verse 2]

You trace rings in the water

Name each one a wasted year

Laugh soft at your reflection

Then wipe away a tear

Your knee brushes my shadow

I feel it like a flame

You say

"We shouldn’t start this"

I answer with your name

[Chorus]

Closed at the bar

But we still open wounds

Two hearts off-key

In this tipsy

Midnight room

Every word is almost

Every touch

Almost too far

We ain't going home together

But we ain't going home

(oh no)

Closed at the bar

[Bridge]

Door’s locked

Chairs are lifted

But we’re glued to this booth

Truth hangs heavy in the low light

We keep sipping around the truth

Your breath tastes like confession

Mine tastes like old regret

If I lean in one inch closer

Is that a promise

Or a bet?

[Chorus]

Closed at the bar

But we still open wounds

Two hearts off-key

In this tipsy

Midnight room

Every word is almost

Every touch

Almost too far

We ain't going home together

But we ain't going home

(til we are)

Closed at the bar
