Old Boots on the Back Road

[Verse 1]

Coffee in a chipped blue cup

Sun sneaks through the curtains slow

Mail piled on the old pine hutch

All the places I meant to go

Dad’s jacket on the same old hook

Smells like rain and gasoline

Map folded in a weathered book

Highway lines I’ve never seen

[Chorus]

These old boots on the back road

Dust on the dashboard

Name on the sign

I keep driving through the stories

I swore I’d leave behind

Every mile feels a little like forgiveness

A little like goodbye

These old boots on the back road

Learning how to try

[Verse 2]

Stopped off at a rusted pump

Kid counting change in a paper sack

Said he’s heading where the hills rise up

Swears he’s never coming back

I saw myself in his nervous grin

Heart too big for a small-town frame

Told him

“Son

When the night blows in

You’ll chase things you can’t name”

[Chorus]

These old boots on the back road

Dust on the dashboard

Name on the sign

I keep driving through the stories

I swore I’d leave behind

Every mile feels a little like forgiveness

A little like goodbye

These old boots on the back road

Learning how to try

[Bridge]

Maybe I don’t need an ending (oh no)

Maybe I just need the drive

Cracked hands on a silent steering wheel

Feeling almost alive

[Chorus]

These old boots on the back road

Dust on the dashboard

Name on the sign

I keep driving through the stories

I swore I’d leave behind

Every mile feels a little like forgiveness

A little like goodbye

These old boots on the back road

Learning how to try

Learning how to try
