Rain in a Low Key

Neon hangs like a tired confession

I walk slow through the river of red

Every window keeps a private obsession

Every streetlight bends over my head

You were a silhouette under weathered glass

How I smoke, learning how to stay

Now the night lets your shadow pass

And the dark takes its time with the day

Rain on the glass

Rain on my name

Nothing stays bright

In this city of flame

I speak in the hush

Where the sirens fade

Told little heart

In a smoky cascade

The trumpet calls from the end of the block

Soft as regret in a locked up room

I keep my pulse in a halftime talk

While the bassline glows like a bruising bloom

Rain on the glass, rain on my name

Nothing stays bright in this city of flame

In the hush where the sirens fade

Cold little heart in a smoky cascade

Night folds in

And I fold with it

Oh, in the static

Out of light
