Shadow In Your Spotlight

[Verse 1]

You walk in

Every head turns first

I’m right there

But I feel like air

You laugh once

And the whole room leans

I smile too

But it goes unseen

[Pre-Chorus]

How do you glow this bright

And still not see my eyes

I’m standing just one step behind

Fading every time

[Chorus]

I’m the shadow in your spotlight

Tracing every move you make

Clapping for your greatness

While I quietly break

I love the way you’re shining

But it cuts me every night

I’m proud of you

And drowning too

As the shadow in your spotlight

I nod like

I believe that line

You hold me

Like I’m your safe place

But you don’t feel

What’s burning in my face

[Pre-Chorus]

How can I ache like this

Watching the one I miss

I’m cheering louder every time

To hide the jealous cry

[Chorus]

I’m the shadow in your spotlight

Tracing every move you make

Clapping for your greatness

While I quietly break

I love the way you’re shining

But it cuts me every night

I’m proud of you

And drowning too

As the shadow in your spotlight

[Bridge]

If I step forward

Will you even see

The girl who would give

All her light for you to breathe

If I walk away

Would you even know

Or just keep burning

In that borrowed glow (oh)

[Chorus]

I’m the shadow in your spotlight

Tracing every move you make

I whisper “I adore you”

Till the words start to ache

I love the way you’re shining

But I’m turning out inside

I’ll stand right here

Year after year

Your shadow in your spotlight
