Smoke on the Dashboard

[Verse 1]

Ashtray full

Tank on E

Same old exit

Staring back at me

Left your jacket

Ripped at the sleeve

Smells like summer

And what I believed

[Chorus]

Smoke on the dashboard

Hanging in the air like you

Your name on my tongue

Tastes bitter

Then it breaks in two

Keep driving in circles

Round the truth I can’t undo

Smoke on the dashboard

But the ghost in the seat is you

[Verse 2]

Motel marquee

Half the lights dead

Static humming

In a tired king bed

Your last message

Blue on my phone

Three small sentences

Cut to the bone

[Chorus]

Smoke on the dashboard

Hanging in the air like you

Your name on my tongue

Tastes bitter

Then it breaks in two

Keep driving in circles

Round the truth I can’t undo

Smoke on the dashboard

But the ghost in the seat is you

[Bridge]

Pulled to the shoulder

Heart on the line

Said I’d quit you

“One more time”

But the wheel keeps turning

Back to where we began

You were my bad habit

I was your back-up plan (oh)

[Chorus]

Smoke on the dashboard

Hanging in the air like you

Your name on my tongue

Tastes bitter

Then it breaks in two

Keep driving in circles

Round the truth I can’t undo

Smoke on the dashboard

Yeah

The ghost in the seat is you (is you)

Smoke on the dashboard

And I still can’t drive on through
