Southbound Miracle

[Intro]

Old map

Glovebox

Hands shake

Truck stops

[Verse 1]

Mile 45

That county line sign

Your picture flaps on the dash in time

Coffee gone cold

Heart still hot

Chasing down the life we almost lost

[Pre-Chorus]

I said I’d change

Then I changed my tune

You packed your bags

I watched you move

Now every road is pointing you

Like it always knew

[Chorus]

I’m driving toward a southbound miracle

Headlights on a prayer and a promise I broke

Every white line spelling out your name

Every red light burning like my shame

If I make it to your front porch

Baby

Will you meet me in the middle

I’m banking on a southbound miracle

To save us tonight

Phone in the seat

I rehearse my lines

Turn down your street for the second time

[Pre-Chorus]

I see your porch light

It cuts the dark

I kill the engine

Hear my heart

Thunder far off

Or is that God

Rolling me this shot

[Chorus]

I’m standing in a southbound miracle

Knees weak on your steps

Rain in my eyes

Every sorry catching in my throat

Every secret heavy in my coat

If I say that I am done just running

Will you call this pain forgivable

I’m begging for a southbound miracle

To pull us back right

[Bridge]

Door cracks open

You don’t speak

One tear falling

Down your cheek

I say

“I was wrong”

You say

“We’ll see”

Then you step out

Right next to me (oh)

[Chorus]

Now we’re walking in a southbound miracle

Bare feet on that old wood

Lightning sky-wide

Every heartbreak fading into dust

Every hard year leaning into us

If we learn to love through all the breaking

Maybe that was always spiritual

Two fools and a southbound miracle

Holding on tight

[Outro]

Old map

Folded

New road
