Super 8 Summer

[Verse 1]

Found our faces in a shoebox

Curled-up corners

Sunburned smiles

Grass-stained knees and crooked helmets

Longer August

Shorter miles

[Chorus]

Play it back in a super 8 summer

Faded colors flicker in my head

All those small

Forever moments

Living large in a twin-size bed

If I could press rewind on that wonder

I’d let the years run out of frame

Super 8 summer keeps on rolling

But it never says our names

[Verse 2]

Late-night porch light

Buzzing silence

You traced stories on my sleeve

Fireflies and half-warm sodas

Vowed to go

Forgot to leave

[Chorus]

Play it back in a super 8 summer

Faded colors flicker in my head

All those small

Forever moments

Living large in a twin-size bed

If I could press rewind on that wonder

I’d let the years run out of frame

Super 8 summer keeps on rolling

But it never says our names

[Bridge]

You said

“Promise me you’ll change”

I said

“Promise me you’ll stay”

Funny how we both were wrong

And it’s perfect in that way (oh)

Every scratch on the film

Every jump

Every shake

Makes it truer than the story

We’d remember wide-awake

[Chorus]

Play it back in a super 8 summer

Faded colors flicker in my head

All those small

Forever moments

Living large in a twin-size bed

If I could press rewind on that wonder

I’d let the years run out of frame

Super 8 summer keeps on rolling

And it still won’t say our names

[Outro]

Hold the frame

Let it tremble

Let the light wash through the grain

We were barely even children

We were everything the same
