The Glove on the Library Steps

A lost glow on the library steps

Still smelling of rain

I picked it up like a small goodbye

And felt your shape in the stain

On the library steps where the daylight fades

Your rain-soaked glove keeps your ghost in the shade

I held that little silence where your fingers had been

And waited for the door

I might bring you back again

The windows were gold

The shells were still

My heartbeat moves slow through the cold

I asked the sky if it knew your name

But the wind only turned and let go

On the library steps

Where the daylight fades

You ran so close

Keeps your ghost in the shape

I held that little silence

Where your fingers had been

And waited for the door

That might bring you back again
