Velvet Afterimage

[Intro]

You appear

Like I just woke up from you

Lip gloss on my pillow

Name still on my tongue

[Verse 1]

You said

“text me when you’re home”

I walked slow

Never did

Street signs looking like your handwriting

Every corner feels like “almost”

Your jacket still on my chair

Smells like bad ideas and mint

I press play on the quiet

Just to hear where you’ve been

[Chorus]

You’re my velvet afterimage

Hanging in the dark of my room

Every time I blink

I’m back in it

Golden in a borrowed perfume

You fade

But you don’t really finish

You loop like a half-sung tune

Velvet afterimage

I can’t adjust my eyes to you

[Verse 2]

We were talking ‘bout next year

Like it was a rented car

Windows down on the what-ifs

Your laugh on my arm

Red nails on the steering wheel

You changed lanes in my chest

Said

“I’m scared of how right this feels”

Then you kissed through the rest

[Chorus]

You’re my velvet afterimage

Hanging in the dark of my room

Every time I blink

I’m back in it

Golden in a borrowed perfume

You fade

But you don’t really finish

You loop like a half-sung tune

Velvet afterimage

I can’t adjust my eyes to you

[Bridge]

Maybe in another timeline

We don’t leave the couch at all (oh)

We order in forever

Let your lipstick stain the fall

We order in forever

Let your lipstick stain the fall

I keep scrolling through the silence

For a sign you’re coming through

Every shadow on my ceiling

Tries and fails to be you

[Chorus]

You’re my velvet afterimage

Hanging in the dark of my room

Every time I blink

I’m back in it

Golden in a borrowed perfume

You fade

But you don’t really finish

You loop like a half-sung tune

Velvet afterimage

I can’t adjust my eyes to you (mm)

Velvet afterimage

I close my eyes and fall into you
