Velvet Avalanche

[Verse 1]

You walked in like a rumor

Soft threat in a leather coat

Laughing like you knew my future

Writing it in every joke

You said

"Careful what you wish for"

I said

"I stopped wishing years ago"

Then your hand brushed mine

Too casual

And the room turned slow

[Chorus]

You hit me like a velvet avalanche

Crashing in quiet

Heavy and sweet

I never saw the danger in your dance

Till I was buried

Buried in deep

Velvet avalanche

Can’t look away

Falling in style

Wrecking my plans

If this is how I lose myself today

Cover me

Cover me

Velvet avalanche

[Verse 2]

We talk in sideways answers

You trace circles on the table edge

Little wars behind your eyelids

Peace signed on the back of a napkin sketch

Taxi lights outside are waiting

But my jacket’s hanging off your chair

I tell myself I’m leaving any second

But my heartbeat stays right here

[Chorus]

You hit me like a velvet avalanche

Crashing in quiet

Heavy and sweet

I never saw the danger in your dance

Till I was buried

Buried in deep

Velvet avalanche

Can’t look away

Falling in style

Wrecking my plans

If this is how I lose myself today

Cover me

Cover me

Velvet avalanche

[Bridge]

What if we never learn the lesson? (oh)

What if we just let it slide?

Spill tomorrow on the carpet

Wear tonight like borrowed pride

[Chorus]

You hit me like a velvet avalanche

Crashing in quiet

Heavy and sweet

I never saw the danger in your dance

Till I was buried

Buried in deep

Velvet avalanche

Don’t let me up

I’m in the rush

I’m in your hands

If this is how I lose myself in us

Cover me

Cover me

Velvet avalanche
