Velvet on the Third Beat

[Verse 1]

Slow pour

Red wine in a short glass

Your laugh

Curling in the blue haze

Two chords

But you keep bending my day

That grin

Hits right on the third phrase (mm)

[Chorus]

You put velvet on the third beat

Baby

Make my heart fall late and lazy

Every look a crooked groove

You sway once and I can’t move

You put velvet on the third beat

Baby

Half-step high and driving me crazy

Hold that tension

Don’t resolve

Let this feeling never solve

[Verse 2]

Soft light

Glowing off your wristwatch

You talk

Spinning little side plots

Side eye

Sliding like a backdoor key

One touch

And the room leans into me (yeah)

[Chorus]

You put velvet on the third beat

Baby

Make my heart fall late and lazy

Every look a crooked groove

You sway once and I can’t move

You put velvet on the third beat

Baby

Half-step high and driving me crazy

Hold that tension

Don’t resolve

Let this feeling never solve

[Bridge]

Circle me slow

Take the long way home

Let the night stretch

Like your favorite note

If this is wrong

Keep playing it wrong

I’ll chase every change

You hide in your song (oh)

[Chorus]

You put velvet on the third beat

Baby

Make my heart fall late and lazy

Every look a crooked groove

You sway once and I can’t move

You put velvet on the third beat

Baby

Half-step high and driving me crazy

Hold that tension

Don’t resolve

Let this feeling never solve
