What Was Happening in the Eighties

Neon lights on every corner

Steady nights, we're on the run

Satellite dreams and vinyl

Echoes under the rising sun

Wall Street's youths in working hands

All chasing something new

TV screens were talking loud

And everyone had a view

All the 80s are a wildfire

Burning through the air

Decade full of contrast

Hope and pressure everywhere

From the dance floor to the front page

From the bedroom to the street

Everybody felt the change

Move fast beneath their feet

Cold war shadows, protest voices

Voyeurs tense and tight

Bright arcades, signs and power suits

Lit up the evening light

We were learning how to cope

With faster days and bigger dreams

Carved between the cracks and shine

And all the in-between scenes

All the 80s were a wildfire

Burning through the air

A decade full of contrast

Hope and pressure everywhere

From the dance floor to the front page

From the bedroom to the street

Everybody felt the change

Move fast beneath their feet

A nation tuned to cable news

A world that wouldn't wait

Plastic futures, broken rules

And faith in what might change

Oh, the 80s were a wildfire

Burning through the air

A decade full of contrast

Hope and pressure everywhere

From the dance floor to the front page

From the bedroom to the street

Everybody felt the change

Move fast beneath their feet
