Wish I Was Her

[Verse 1]

She wears your jacket

Like it’s always been hers

Laughs with your mama

Helps her with church flowers

You pour her coffee

Like it’s a sacred chore

I’m at the counter

Smiling

Aching

Wanting more

[Chorus]

I wish I was her

In your passenger seat

Singing wrong words

With my bare feet on the heat

I wish I was the one

You reach for first

Honey on your lips

When you kiss her in that old white shirt

Oh

I wish I was her

[Verse 2]

She knows your stories

Says them better than you

Calls you by nicknames

I never even knew

You save her pictures

On that cracked-up phone

I save your letters

In a box I read alone

[Chorus]

I wish I was her

In your passenger seat

Singing wrong words

With my bare feet on the heat

I wish I was the one

You reach for first

Honey on your lips

When you kiss her in that old white shirt

Oh

I wish I was her

[Bridge]

I pray for peace

But I pray for you too (softly)

Both in the same breath

What else can I do

I bless her name

As I curse this hurt

Learning to love you

Means learning my worth

[Chorus]

I wish I was her

In your passenger seat

Singing wrong words

With my bare feet on the heat

I wish I was the one

You reach for first

Honey on your lips

When you kiss her in that old white shirt

Oh

I wish I was her

Yeah

I wish I was her
