Back to the Fire

[Verse 1]

Found your jacket on the back of my chair

Found your jacket on the back of my chair

Sleeve still folded where you used to sit

I talk to it like you’re stuck in the fabric

Ask it how the hell we ended up like this

[Verse 2]

Took the long road past your side of the river

Slow drive

Every red light a dare

Tense hands tapping on the worn-out steering

Like maybe you’d be waiting there

[Chorus]

I keep coming back to the fire

Even though I know I get burned

Every time I swear I’m wiser

Then I crash into the turn

You’re the heat I never outrun

You’re the ache I never outgrow

I keep coming back

Back to the fire

Back to the only home I know (oh)

[Verse 3]

Door half open

I can see your records

Stacked in towers like a skyline lean

You say “You’re late” with a crooked shoulder

I say “I tried to stay gone” in between

[Chorus]

I keep coming back to the fire

Even though I know I get burned

Every time I swear I’m wiser

Then I crash into the turn

You’re the heat I never outrun

You’re the ache I never outgrow

I keep coming back

Back to the fire

Back to the only home I know

[Bridge]

Your hands on my collar

Your breath on my throat

We’re right at the edge

Where we always choke

Say “this is the last time”

Then pull me in tighter

We don’t need an answer

We just need it brighter (hey)

[Chorus]

I keep coming back to the fire

Even though I know I get burned

Every time I swear I’m wiser

But I never seem to learn

You’re the heat I never outrun

You’re the ache I never outgrow

I keep coming back

Back to the fire

Back to the only home I know

Back to the fire

You’re the only home I know
