Backseat Daydream

[Chorus]

Put my heart in your backseat

Don’t drive slow

Every mile that we steal

We both lose control

If we crash

If we burn

I still wanna know

Would you hold me

Hold me

On the way home?

[Verse 1]

You pulled up late in that borrowed car

Coffee on your sleeve

Records in the trunk

Said

“Pick a town

We can disappear”

I laughed too loud

Tried to play it off (but I already sunk)

[Pre-Chorus]

I’ve been scared of the start

You’ve been scared of the ending

But we’re here in the dark

And the sky’s finally bending

If we’re wrong

We’re still alive

So say my name

And put it in drive

[Chorus]

Put my heart in your backseat

Don’t drive slow

Every mile that we steal

We both lose control

If we crash

If we burn

I still wanna know

Would you hold me

Hold me

On the way home?

[Verse 2]

You sing off-key to a song I hate

Still I find myself mouthing every word

You reach for mine at a yellow light

Like you’re checking in

But you’re here through it all

Every doubt

Every season

If we’re lost

We’ll take the long drive

Say you’re mine

And put it in drive

[Chorus]

Put my heart in your backseat

Don’t drive slow

Every mile that we steal

We both lose control

If we crash

If we burn

I still wanna know

Would you hold me

Hold me

On the way home?

Put my heart in your backseat

You already know

Got my past in the rearview

Letting it go

If we crash

If we burn

I still wanna know

Would you hold me

Hold me

On the way home?

[Bridge]

If this is a mistake

It’s my favorite one

If this is how I break

Let it all come undone

Say you’ll stay

Say you’ll stay (oh-oh)

Even just for today

[Chorus]

Put my heart in your backseat

Don’t drive slow

Every mile that we steal

We both lose control

If we crash

If we burn

I still wanna know

Would you hold me

Hold me

On the way home?

Put my heart in your backseat

You already know

With your hand on the wheel

I can finally let go

If we crash

If we burn

I still wanna know

Would you hold me

Hold me

On the way home?
