Highway In Our Hands

[Verse 1]

Map folded in the glovebox

Suncream on the dashboard

You’re laughing at the station snacks

We’re richer than a passport

Windows down

That crooked sign

Says “last town for fifty miles”

You put your feet up on the seat

Say

“let’s get lost a while”

[Chorus]

We’ve got the highway in our hands

Burning daylight

Chasing plans

Every mile a second chance

To feel young

To feel reckless

Singing songs we halfway know

Letting yesterday let go

If there’s an end

We’ll take it slow

For now we’re free and breathless (oh-oh)

[Verse 2]

Polaroids on the visor

Coffee rings on old receipts

Your hoodie as a pillow

Cheap motel and tangled sheets

Talking like the night won’t end

About the people we outgrew

The rearview holds the version

We once thought we had to prove

[Chorus]

We’ve got the highway in our hands

Burning daylight

Chasing plans

Every mile a second chance

To feel young

To feel reckless

Singing songs we halfway know

Letting yesterday let go

If there’s an end

We’ll take it slow

For now we’re free and breathless (yeah)

[Bridge]

Will we remember all these exits

When the world pulls us apart?

The county lines

The borrowed time

The way your laugh reset my heart

If we forget the words we said

We’ll still recall this view

An open road

A summer sky

The taste of leaving with you

[Chorus]

We’ve got the highway in our hands

Burning daylight

Chasing plans

Every mile a second chance

To feel young

To feel reckless (so reckless)

Singing songs we halfway know

Letting yesterday let go

If there’s an end

I’ll drive it slow

As long as I’m here beside you

We’re still free and breathless (oh-oh)

We’re still free and breathless
