Let It Be Ours

[Verse 1]

You were folding up your sweater

Kitchen light half on

Half done

Saying

“Guess we can’t go backward

What we broke can’t be undone”

I was tracing all the tiles

Counting cracks to dodge your eyes

Every word felt like a trial

Every breath another why

[Chorus]

If it’s over

Let it be ours

Let it be something we chose

Not just slipping through our fingers

Like we never had control

If we’re fading

Let it be honest

Let it be kindness

Not a war

If we’re ending

Let it be ours

Not the silence at the door

[Verse 2]

There’s a picture on the counter

Birthday cake and tangled hair

You were laughing in that moment

I was sure I’d always care

We could blame it on the timing

On the weight we couldn’t lift

But there’s peace inside admitting

Some things aren’t meant to fit

[Chorus]

If it’s over

Let it be ours

Let it be something we chose

Not just slipping through our fingers

Like we never had control

If we’re fading

Let it be honest

Let it be kindness

Not a war

If we’re ending

Let it be ours

Not the silence at the door

[Bridge]

We don’t need a perfect story

Just the courage to be true

I’ll remember how you held me

Not the night I lost you

[Chorus]

If it’s over

Let it be ours

Let it be soft when we fall

Let the last thing that we give

Be the best of what we are

If we’re fading

Let it be honest

Let it be love

Even apart

If we’re ending

Let it be ours

Let it be gentle on your heart
