Marigolds at Midnight

I follow marigold petals

Through the silver evening air

A ribbon of gold on the sidewalk

Like a promise laid with care

The candles blink in the window

Little stars against the night

And every step I take feels like your hand is holding mine

I hear laughter in the silence

Soft as incense, sweet and low

Every man-made becomes a doorway

Every shadow starts to glow

Come closer come closer

In the candle light I know

Love is stronger than the distance

And it never lets me go

Come closer come closer

Free the music and the rain

I can feel you here beside me

Calling my heart by name

There are photos on the altar

There are flowers in the wind

There are stories in the kitchen

Where your voice still lives within

I set out your favorite colors

I pour a little sweat of tea

And in the warmth between the prayers

You are smiling back at me

I hear laughter in the silence

Soft as incense, sweet and low

Every man may becomes a doorway

Every shadow starts to glow

In the candle light I know

Love is stronger than the distance

And it never lets me go

Come closer come closer

Through the music and the rain

I can feel you here beside me

Calling my heart by name

If I walk far from the sorrow

If I lose the shape of home

I will follow every marigold

Till I know I'm not alone

Hands around me, voices near me

Like a blessing softly spun

In the lanterns of this evening

We are many, we are one

Come closer, come closer

Let the whole night overflow

With a love that keeps returning

And the ones we'll always know

Come closer come closer

As the marigolds remain

I can feel you here forever

Calling my heart by name
