Marigolds for the Returning Moon

At dusk I light the candles low

And set the altar in a golden glow

I lay the marigolds in careful rows

Where the evening wind so softly blows

Your photograph beside the flame

Still carries the same beloved name

I whisper stories one by one

'Til the dark feels gentle and undone

Come home, come home for one night only

Cross the veil and keep us closely

We leave the door unlatched for you

With bread and wine and memories true

Come home, come home, the moon is singing

Through the quiet, through the ringing

The farting bell and midnight air

We welcome you

We know you're there

A marigold leads you through the night

A yellow river in the candlelight

I hear your laughter in the strings

And all the room remembers things

No Sado here can stay too long

When your old favorite hymn becomes my song

One night we borrow from the stars

And mend the distance between our hearts

Come home, come home for one night only

Cross the veil and keep us closely

We leave the door unlatched for you

With bread and wine and memories true

Come home, come home

The moon is singing

Through the quiet, through the ringing

Of heart and bell and midnight air

We welcome you, we know you're there

'Til morning wakes, I'll keep the light

And guard this tender, sacred night

If love can call you through the dark

And every candle holds your spark
