Candles on the Marigold Path

I follow the marigold path when the evening is deep

Past the silver of the river and the streets half asleep

Every petal like a lantern in the soft fading light

Guiding me home through the velvet of night

Come near me, beloved

I feel you here

In the hush between heartbeats

In the trembling air

On the marigold path

Where the old souls stay

I remember your name

And you don't fade away

Your laughter lives in the ember of the kitchen flame

In the old song, my mother still sings with your name

The trumpet is distant, the candles are bright

And your shadow walks gentle beside me tonight

Come near me, beloved

I feel you here

In the hush between heartbeats

In the trembling air

On the marigold path

Where the old souls stare

I remember your name

And you don't fade away

If the dark wants to steal what the daylight gave

I will carry your love like a song through the grave

With each flower I place, with each breath I pray

You return as the warmth that will not drift away

Come near me, beloved

I feel you here

In the hush between heartbeats

In the trembling air

On the marigold path

Where the old souls stay

I remember your name

And you don't fade away

Come near me, beloved

Through the veil and the night

You are candle and memory

Forever in light
