Maui Luau Goodbye

I came to Maui as a visitor

Chasin' sunset on the sand

At Luau by the firelight

I first saw her take my hand

She was dancin' like the moon was

Hummin' through the palm tree lights

And I swear my heart surrendered

In a single look of mine

I asked her for a dance

She smiled and let me pull her near

We moved like waves along the shoreline

Vanished in the summer air

And I kissed her soft and slowly

Held her hand from head to fingertips

And I felt like heaven open

Every time she brushed my lips

Oh, I loved her in the moon glow

I loved her in the rain

I thought I found forever

Wrapped inside her sweet refrain

Then she led me to a garden

Where the plumery of blooms would sway

And I believed that love had found me

At the end of that long day

But then a man came walking in

And time just froze that night

She turned to me and whispered

That's my husband in the light

My heart felt like a broken wave

And I stood there stunned and still

Then the tears came down like raindrops

And they always will
