Midnight Masquerade in the Neon Fog

The mirror blinks in candlelight

I slip through velvet smoke

Behind a feathered alibi

A hundred hearts provoke

The chandeliers are watching

Every glance a loaded knife

I taste the air like perfume

And a little bit of life

Hands brush past like static, eyes meet in the blue

Every mass confession says the thing we both know too

The room rings and the bassline grins, the night begins to glow

And every step I take is one more secret I can't slow

We dance, we dance in the midnight masquerade

Secrets on our downs and the rules all start to fade

Danger in the glitter, desire in the heat

I'm losing all my caution to the pulse beneath my feet

We dance, we dance like the whole dark barroom sway

If love is a disguise, then I'll wear it anyway

Close enough but burnt, far enough to lie

In the midnight masquerade, we come alive

A stranger at the stairwell says my name like he has none

The shape of every longing that I've tried to keep unknown

His touch is just a rumor

But it lingers on my skin

A promise wrapped in velvet

With a blade tucked safely in

The organ sighs like trouble, the drum machine keeps time

Every stolen heartbeat is a little crossing of the line

I see the shadows smiling where the candle fire falls

And I can't tell if I'm escaping or answering the call

We dance, we dance in the midnight masquerade

Secrets on our tongues and the rules will start to fade

Danger in the glitter, desire in the heat

I'm losing all my caution to the pulse beneath my feet

We dance, we dance, let the whole dark orange sway

If love is a disguise, then I'll wear it anyway

Close enough to burn, far enough to lie

In the midnight masquerade, we come alive

Whisper my sin under the black silk sky

Tell me if the truth still tastes like a sweet goodbye

If the night takes names, then take mine slow

I'm already halfway lost in the afterglow

We dance, we dance in the midnight masquerade

Every secret sparkle, every heartbeat unafraid

Danger, iniquity, desire, and friend

When the mask comes off, I will still call your name

We dance, we dance as the shadows turn to gold

In the midnight mystery, I let myself be so

Close enough to burn, but far enough to find

In the midnight masquerade, we come alive
