Motel Mirrors

[Verse 1]

Another highway sign blurs by

Half a cup of cold drive-thru

Shirt still smells like last night’s bar

And a stranger’s cheap perfume

Cracked screen

Your name in gray

All our photos in a row

You said

“Call me when you’re home”

But this bus just keeps me gone

[Chorus]

These motel mirrors tell the truth

I look most like myself with you

But you’re a thousand lonely miles behind

I chase a dream

You pay in time

Every town feels just the same

When I’m cursing every stage I play

‘Cause the only light I want to see

Is your porch light waiting up for me

[Verse 2]

Polished boots on borrowed rugs

Meet and greet and “what’s your song?”

I sign their hats

Then slip outside

Just to feel the quiet wrong

I sign their hats

Then slip outside

Just to feel the quiet wrong

Your voicemail from weeks ago

“I’m proud of you

Just come back soon”

I hit repeat

Let it cut deep

In this small

Forgettable room

[Chorus]

These motel mirrors tell the truth

I look most like myself with you

But you’re a thousand lonely miles behind

I chase a dream

You pay in time

Every town feels just the same

When I’m cursing every stage I play

‘Cause the only light I want to see

Is your porch light waiting up for me

[Bridge]

If I turned this truck around

Would I find you at that door?

Or just echoes in that kitchen

Of the life we planned before?

[Chorus]

These motel mirrors tell the truth

I look most like myself with you

But you’re a thousand lonely miles behind

I chase a dream

You pay in time

Every cheer just fades to dark

Till I’m dialing you from some small park

Yeah

The only light I want to see

Is your porch light

Your porch light

Waiting up for me
