Up to the Light

We were kids with our dreams in the backseat night

Counting stars like they could teach us how to fly

Everyone turned, felt like a map to something true

And I kept a little sire, kept a little you

Now the grave meant

Humps like a promise under me

I can feel the city breathing possibilities

Hands up high, I'm not afraid of what I'll become

The road is long, but I'm already on the run

We're rising up, rising up into the light

With our bruises on our feet and our hearts on fire tonight

Sing it loud, sing it loud, let the whole world know

We were born to bend, not break

And we were born to grow

Oh, we're cutting a life

Oh, we're reaching the sky

Every scar is just a story that we wore too long

Every goodbye made the backbone that made us strong

I still hear those midnight voices telling me to stay

But I'll end the brave part simply choosing anyway

Now the pavement humps like a promise under me

I can feel the seal breathe impossibilities

Hands up high, I'm not afraid of what I'll become

The road is long, but I'm already on the run

We're rising up, backing up into the light

With our bruises on and leaving our hearts on fire tonight

Sing it loud, sing it loud, let the whole world know

We were born to bend, not break

And we were born to grow

Oh, we're coming alive

Oh, we're reaching the sky

And when the fear comes back, we won't fold

We've got the kind of hope that turns to gold

Every heartbeat saying, don't look down

We were made for this moment

We own this sound

We're rising up, rising up into the light

With our bruises on us

Weaving our hearts on fire tonight

Sing it loud, sing it loud, let the whole world know

We were born to bend or break, and we were born to grow

Oh, we're coming alive

Oh, we're reaching the sky

Rising up, bouncing up into the light
