Papel Picado After Midnight

When the blue hour falls, the street in gold

We light the corners where the old prayers hold

Paper flowers tremble in the breeze tonight

And every little candle learns to shine

I bring the ribbons

You bring the song

Names in the silence where we all belong

Hands on the altar

Hearts on the rise

We paint the dark with laughing eyes

Decorate the altar, let the colors bloom

Dance with the shadows in the candlelight room

Remember the ones who taught about how to live

Celebrate the life that the living can give

Decorate the altar

Sing it loud and bright

Love keeps the ember glowing through the night

Marimba footsteps

Pride against the stone

A bright bass humming like a voice of home

Fresh drums whisper

As the night grows wide

And every memory walks by our side

For every year

There's a story in the air

For every missing face, a flame we share

We do not

Forget, we carry and we dance

Turning grief to garlands in a second chance

Decorate the altar

Let the colors bloom

Dance with the shadows in the candlelight room

Remember the ones

Who taught us how to live

Celebrate the life that the living can give

Decorate the altar

Sing it loud and bright

Love keeps the ember

Glowing through the night

Decorate the altar

Cards alive and free

In remembrance

We become the song we need
