Stone on the Shore

[Intro]

[uilleann pipe slowly swells

Then bouzouki joins in a gentle jig pulse]

[Verse 1]

I left you a stone on the shore

Where the tide just kisses

Then lets go

Said your name to the gulls

They carried it low

Carried it low

[Chorus]

Oh

I am an exile in fair weather

Sun on my face

But my heart in the rain

Every wave writes your name in the heather

Then wipes it away

Wipes it again

I am a stone on the shore

Dreaming of home on your door

[Verse 2]

Your letter still smells of the peat

Of the room where we danced slow in our socks

I trace every fold with my thumb

Like the old county lines on the rocks

[Chorus]

Oh

I am an exile in fair weather

Sun on my face

But my heart in the rain

Every wave writes your name in the heather

Then wipes it away

Wipes it again

I am a stone on the shore

Dreaming of home on your door

[Bridge]

If I follow the birds to the west (oh)

Will they lead me back over the foam

Or just circle above this strange harbour

Till I call this strange harbour home

[Chorus]

Oh

I am an exile in fair weather

Sun on my face

But my heart in the rain

Every wave writes your name in the heather

Then wipes it away

Wipes it again

I am a stone on the shore

Dreaming of home on your door (hey)

Dreaming of home on your door
